Unfortunately, whenever you take a settlement mission they still "join the minuteman. And if you turn in that quest to Preston he will again ask you to take over. WebLater, I arrive back in Sanctuary and he's back. I've also told him to go home, to Mechanist's, while in Sanctuary. As a settler, I've told him to go to Mechanist's Lair. We won't go. He still shows up as a modifiable robot on the robot bench in Sanctuary. Quest-wise, even though I'm level 204, I've done very little faction quests.
