Margaret Widdemer (September 30, 1884 – July 14, 1978) was an American poet and novelist. She won the Pulitzer Prize (known then as the Columbia University Prize) in 1919 for her collection The Old Road to Paradise, shared with Carl Sandburg for Cornhuskers. WebMargaret Widdemer’s first collection of poetry, The Factories and Other Poems, was published in 1917 and detailed the horrors of child labor. She used her art to draw attention to social issues she felt passionately about. This work was followed by The Old Road to Paradise in 1918.
