Sounded great and definitely had a ton of tones. Only downside was that the head shell weighed so damn much! WebDec 14, 2010 · I contacted Peavey and they told me that they use Ruby 6L6s when replacing the output tubes in VTM-120s (they said that Eddie Van Halen's guitar tech probably bought up all the NOS Phillips/Sylvanias). I've never heard/used Rubys, and mostly all of the comments I've read on forums and newsgroups about Rubys are negative.

Mine sounded glorious and definitely had a JCM800 vibe going... although smother and not quite as cutting.
