You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of this. It’s not part of the SPFx release, but rather a change to the feature in SharePoint Online that was timed alongside the SPFx v1.17 release.

Node.js v8 works just fine with the latest versions of Yeoman (v2.0.5+), Gulp (v3.9.1) & the SPFx generator (v1.6.0. I suspect you may be having issues @fabianmadurai if you aren't on a current version of the SPFx generator.
